Your Guide To Miley Cyrus And Her Dead Petz

If you follow Miley Cyrus on Instagram, you see a lot of two things:  Wayne Coyne and Miley’s pets.  And Miley naked.  Okay, three things.

Surprise!  Miley released a 23- track project on Soundcloud.  She calls it Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz.  The petz being her friends and collaborators.  Not her animals.  Those are pets.

If you ever listened to The Flaming Lips and thought, “Miley Cyrus should sing these songs!” this is the music for you. Coyne & Co co- wrote or co- produced almost every song.  Her first words out of the gate are “Yea I Smoke Pot” but you’re going to need much stronger drugs to truly enjoy this trippy, spacey, dreamy and downright weird musical experiment.

I’m not quite sure what I think about Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz.  I can’t call it an album.  This is what albums are before they get cleaned up and produced by a label (Miley self- produced all tracks).  I also can’t call it a Miley Cyrus work.  The Flaming Lips had a lot to do with it.  I can’t decide if Dead Petz is brilliant, stupid, indulgent, or a slap in the face for the record industry.  Probably all of the above.

Oddly enough, even though Miley lives the life of an experimental art student, she usually seems totally with it and coherent.  This album sounds like she might actually be permanently warping her brain.  Let’s just hope she ascends to John Lennon status instead of spiraling down to Amanda Bynes status.

Skip BB Talk.  It’s a spoken word confessional with many fuck words.

Everything else sounds more or less copacetic.  It’s actually pretty chill background music.  And it’s bloody two hours long, which makes it perfect for gatherings.  Put this on when you’re chilling with homies and [probably] getting high.

Glossary of Miley Speak:

Fweaky: Freaky

Fwiends: Friends

Bowlzzz: Bowls…?
