Album Spotlight: Jessie Ware, Tough Love

Jessie Ware Tough Love

2014 | Interscope | 43 minutes

I’ll admit:  I still watch Pretty Little Liars.

Even though I’ve almost had enough of the plot twists and cliffhanger endings, I stay tuned for two reasons:  the awesome fashion and the sexy music supervision.
Last week’s episode included a song called “Tough Love”, from Jessie Ware’s album of the same name.  I spotted the song on Spotify and wound up listening to the whole album.

Jessie has a lush romantic voice like Sade’s and spins soft, soulful, captivating tunes heavy with disco references.   Jessie’s songs have that soft- focus, hip- swinging vibe.  Also:  Love her black- and- white aesthetic.

A quick trip to Wikipedia reveals that the album reached No. 9 on the UK charts and features collaborations with Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran.  Jessie also co-wrote and sang backing vocals on  “The Crying Game”, off Nicki Minaj’s The Pinkprint.

I came for the single and stayed for the album.  If you want to treat your ears, listen to “Tough Love” on a quiet night.
